i feed my dog commercial raw. idk about the popular international brands, but i tend to buy from local brands, and my pet peeve is that sometimes they would say "single ingredient meal" which means like, if they say the main protein is lamb then all the organs and bones would be from lamb, too (not counting whatever veggies they might add in later), but when you read the ingredients list closely it turns out they also add in organs or bones from other, often cheaper protein source. it made it harder to feed my dog way back when he gets itchy from chicken. he’s thankfully fine with any sort of protein now, but it still irks me that some sellers would advertise their product as one thing when really it’s not.

definitely agree on the last point!! It’s always so disappointing to me to discover a new pre-made brand that states it has "balanced meat, bone and organs" but you look at the ingredients and it’s just liver and heart or lung ESPECIALLY if it’s a novelty protein like noooooo I was so looking forward to kangaroo spleen and ostrich brain 😭

My cats don’t eat pre-made raw 🙈 I bought some for days with no time or when I’m sick, but they don’t want to eat ground up food, only chunks 😅

also, commercial raw food brands cannot be to AAFCO standards without having SOME form of synthetic vitamin, so you either get synthetic or whole fruits and veggies. so the point u mentioned about fruits and vegetables but also looking for AAFCO certification is contradicting.

One question about iron, I use iron drops (for humans) to balance my cat’s food if there is not enough iron in the meat (I calculate my “recipes” to be 100% of all the requirement nutrients)
The drops are suitable for vegetarians/vegans so it’s plant based iron. Do you think the bioavailability is still okay if its already in a pure form, even if its not animal-based iron?

    Great video!

  9. Geehan El-abbassi on March 26, 2022 at 6:26 am

Im confused because you did speak on primal in the past that they are a good premade raw brand despite having 7% vegetables in their cat raw food. It is well known that cats can process fruits and vegetables that are lower than 10%. Dry food has so much more than that and raw food companies shouldn’t be put as a red flag because they use a small amount of vegetables in their premade form.

Brilliant video. Have you checked out any of the RFVS conference videos? Great conversations on the debate of ‘create vs formulate’.

It’s the whole turkey bones and organs ground, with beef, pork, salmon, bones and organs with natural supplements.

    Hello !

I would like to know your thoughts on the Bones & Co raw food. I believe that would a great brand to review.

Also, is there any way you can speak towards ingredients that healthy skin and coat for dogs…more specific a raw food meal that support dogs with seasonal allergies?

  20. santa ana on March 26, 2022 at 6:56 am

Can you review instinct raw longevity there new formula

  21. Emma Skabelund on March 26, 2022 at 6:58 am

We have a pre made raw but they make sure to tell that you have to add your own vitamins and minerals. And that it is not balanced

  22. Leann Tan on March 26, 2022 at 6:59 am

Also puppy and adult dogs have different nutrients requirements but many commercial raw companies claim it’s suitable for all ages.

  23. Chilly on March 26, 2022 at 7:00 am

Mine are fed Darwin’s raw food, is that a good brand??

  24. Garlicbread on March 26, 2022 at 7:02 am

We feed the KIVO brand to our dogs. Every meat roll says wether the stuff is complete or not. Although I could probably add stuff for our dogs specifically. Our dogs do great on this food!

  25. Lydia Veilleux on March 26, 2022 at 7:04 am

Is there a way i could balance the patties i am buying ? I mix 3 proteins generally but two of them only have liver as secreting organs. Sadly i am a student and so busy right now , the idea of doing it all myself is overwhelming to me ! Could i had a few chunks of organ meats or will it unbalance it completely? Honestly i have been on this journey for almost a year and i can’t figure it out 🙁

  26. Anna & Presley Vlogs on March 26, 2022 at 7:04 am

Is bones & co a good pre – made raw food brand ????

  27. Raw Explorer on March 26, 2022 at 7:07 am

Dont know about the US but here most of the commercial raw isnt complete and balanced. Once I encountered a lady whose dog got hyperthyroidism from eating a blend with 70% pig throats. Seriously, who on Earth is selling that! Anyway, I make my own barf diet and I Enjoy it so ^^

  28. Mama Bear on March 26, 2022 at 7:07 am

I recently looked at the label for a complete and balanced beef raw food. The first two ingredients are heart and liver. There was no muscle meat. This looks hugely imbalanced to me. The copper must be sky high. A dog needs liver and heart but in the proper proportion or imbalances will occur.

  29. Settings Settings on March 26, 2022 at 7:10 am

as a science graduate there is no such thing as complete or balance diet. even if feeding whole prey each individual of whole prey dont have the exact nutrient make up of the same whole prey. i.e feeding whole duck one duck can be deficient in iron compared to the next whole duck which may be too high vitamin e based on what the levels should be for that specie of duck. so every animal although containing the same nutrients can have varying nutrient profiles even if its the same specie. lastly, we as humans do not know what constitutes to a complete or balance diet for most animals especially dogs since we do not what a dogs true nutrient make ups are. hence its an estimate or range values.

I feed my cat SmallBatch and I absolutely love this brand. I would love to hear your thoughts or watch a review on this company if you had the time!

  31. Charlaine Lemay on March 26, 2022 at 7:15 am

I do a wmix of brands, i find that brands can use different animal parts so mixing them gives more variety, i use big country raw, primal, bold by nature and sometimes red dog blue kat, any thoughts about them? I have pretty bad anxiety so making a balance meal myself is very overwhelming, the ingredients lists on the brands I buy seem to me pretty good
