Luckily my muscovies aren’t too quacky lol I live in an area that has houses that share one wall with eachother so almost every noise can be heard by the neighbors and it sucks too, we have a neighbor that likes to have a party every night and it keeps us awake for almost the whole night, but when they hear at least the slightest bit of noise, they’ll be right up the door with reinforcements telling you to shut up. Sucks to live here lol it was risky getting the ducks since it might end up with us having to deal with them banging on our doors demanding us to keep it down, but luckily my duckies are quiet and just do their normal ducky business without screaming or making a fuss over things.

  12. Peanut and Sophie on May 8, 2021 at 12:34 pm

Yes you can have a duck indoors. And yes, they poop all the time and anywhere. But the main part of raising a duck is you have to have a huge amount of patience and tolerance. I have two. One was a runt and he was going to be destroyed so I took him home with another one as a brother. Still have them and still love and enjoy them as much if not more than ever. I do keep them indoors in the winter. Since temps drop below -zero more times than we like in winter. But they get to go outside depending on weather each day for awhile for exercise. Summertime they have a playpen with a huge pool. Thia is for protection due to the bears, wolves, dogs and other critters that would kill them. The best advice. You decide if you have the commitment of 24 hrs, 365 days a year of love and patience.

Is the pooing a bother with ducks?
I have a wooden deck and my mother is concerned about the poo that comes out of ducks onto her deck.
Like is it hard to clean and all?

My stàndard poodle never harmed my ducks. But a neighbor stupid azz pit bull jumped our fence and ripped off my boys beak. I hate pit bulls. Get a dog that doesn’t need trainined to be kind, not aggressive and not scale large fences… just saying.

How did you put this text inside

  30. Raven Cross on May 8, 2021 at 12:57 pm

I personally had a duck as an indoor pet for a large chunk of my childhood. There were some easy pro and con as with any pets. we took him to the vet for shots and check ups as you do a dog, we gave him toys like a string of yarn to peck at and waddle after, and we could pick him up and even pet and hug him all the time.

The cons was that he was a duck, by which I mean they are semi aquatic and often use the bathroom in water, so often when we’d fill up the bath tub he’d jump in and go potty. we’d rinse the water out and sterilize the tub and after that he was good to go. Even if he did jump back in it was only to swim. I can’t say every duck will be super well behaved like Darkwing was, but they aren’t bad if you have patience and a lot of love to give. At least in my experience.

despite the youtubers point of view, Growing up in the country and being around many farm houses, DUCKS MAKE GREAT HOUSE PETS – So do PIGS. Im sorry but im indifferent when people say that you should not have them as such. People have monkeys, lizzards, snakes, turtles, frogs, all animals that are far more unsuited to be house pets. The domesticated animals do not bother them, they actually accept them as their own. Many friends have had ducks in their homes growing up and i still know a family or 2 that currently have a pet duck. Yes you need to clean up after them , and maybe keep a bathtub or basin full of water so they can bathe… yes ducks are very clean animals like cats and pigs, but they do just fine as pets. they will snuggle up with you or the other house pets when fully grown and they have great personalities depending on the breed. yes the first year or so is a little more work due to the imprinting, but after they develop their own independence and personality. do not let these videos sway you. do some asking around to other pet duck ownerrs and if its what you want, go for it.

    – Dogs are actually more work. Ducks have far fewer vet visits. fewer allergies and in time you wont even need to take them out or they will use a cat door and do their business outside. Ducks are similar to cats, you can leave their feed and they will eat when hungry, they will learn where they can and cannot drop just like other animals they likely wont drop where they sleep. .. the one friend who still has a duck. going on 5 years, the duck knows the newspaper in the mudroom is his dropping spot and only goes there.. they are not stupid animals and adapt quite well compared to other animal species

You can keep a duck as a house pet, but there are requirements that must be passed.
    1. Duck must not be alone, have at least 3 or 4 ducks raised from babies together.
    2. Must have a spare room for them, if you don’t want them pooping everywhere.
    3. Block the vent if it is too cold for the ducks.
    4. They can’t just stay inside for 24 hours a day, they must be outside in the morning for 2 hours and in the afternoon another or 2 hours.
    5. They need a lake or pool to swim in.
    6. Keep an eye on them while outside in case of predators.
    7. Spend time with them and all of you will live happy.
    My final answer is yes
