Is it possible to train my new budgie when I added another one to his cage? .. I felt he needed a companion but also was thinking it might make it more difficult to train my original budgie…. Is that true or false?

Hi I got my first budgie 4 days ago and he is progressing at an incredible rate. While feeding him with my hand he flew out of he’s cage. Only problem is that I didn’t train him to get on my finger. Is there a way to get him back to his cage without forcing him. He is kind of stuborn. I managed to get him out of the heat spot he found and them he got back to his cage by himself.

  15. Mary Stover on June 12, 2022 at 6:56 am

I watched the video about taming a baby Budgie fast. From what I could tell they were already being handled prior to this as you were able to just pick them up out of the nesting box then it was a matter of giving them food by hand that they took easily enough. That’s not how it is with my Oscar. He’s 2 prob going on 3 months. Not had first molt. He’s been with me for less than 2 weeks. He’s still not ready for me to get close. I do as I have seen in different videoes by simply keeping his cage near me, placing my hand inside cage and leaving it still. When I can get close enough I put his seed food that he eats really well in Palm of my hand while he’s on his swing. Sometimes he looks at the food then moves away. Sometimes he doesn’t he look at the food and moves away quick. I’ve not done anything to traumatize him. I let him listen and watch these Parakeet/Budgie vids. He becomes active. Interacting well, but wants nothing to do with me. I cannot allow him to watch ones that are flocks because he gets far too excited. His head is still small enough to push it between the bars and he does this. Then part of his chest! Once even a wing. He only does this with the flock ones. Small numbers he doesn’t. I am afraid he will injure himself. I an coming to conclusion that these videos are not good for him to watch or listen to as they undermine what I am trying to do. At this point I am lost as to what to do. At this point I am leaving him alone there than changing food and water, cleaning cage and speaking to him. Hope you see this..or anyone here that can give me suggestions. I’ve always been good with animals.

  16. Zack M on June 12, 2022 at 6:57 am

Well, I’ve tried almost everything, after 4 months my birds are still freaking out of my hands even when I’m changing their food and water! 😞 Gaining a bird’s trust is much more difficult than cats or dogs it seems 🙃

  28. Jamison Walker on June 12, 2022 at 7:09 am

I’m fairly certain the budgie I purchased was a female. I’ve heard females are more stubborn and hard to train. How much harder are females to train?

  29. Senpai Idiot-kun on June 12, 2022 at 7:09 am

uhmmmm am I the only person noticing the toys???? those are bad for your bird.

  30. Sheila Martinez on June 12, 2022 at 7:10 am

They shouldn’t have mirrors. It gives them a sense of false relationship with another bird. They will not interact with a person closely if they just sit and look at a mirror.

  36. ドロゴチ on June 12, 2022 at 7:13 am

i tamed mine "in a day", he alwas run etc, only at night i could get him on hand to get him to cage but he was always biting and ignoring it didnt help after a long time, so i tried fighting with him a little, like they do so that i wont scare him much or hurt him in any way, the next day he wanted to be with me all the time, it was almost annoying xD …. i literally gave up on taming him, nothing worked and then this xD ~your nail is buggies beak~

During the two-week period that you let your budgie get to know the area, can you still try to train it, or do you just leave it alone?
