I bought this 1960s Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s version of Cinderella several years ago…It’s my favorite Cinderella; I absolutely love it! Remember seeing this tv special as a kid! Great stars in it…Lesley Ann Warren, Stewart Damon, (Allan Quartermaine in General Hospital), and many classic actors, Ginger Rogers, Walter Pidgeon, Celest Holm, Pat Caroll! This movie is filmed as a stage play. It’s simple which is part of it’s charm, with very colorful costumes and background sets! A great movie musical, I highly recommend!

In this one she doesn’t get to marry him, at least we don’t see it. And the step people get to go with her. Humpf! I like the 2015 version best I think.

  16. Barbara Iverson on December 20, 2021 at 12:59 am

This had major stars in it. When each passed and their credits were talked about, this project is never mentioned. Stuart Damon would rather you talk about his work on soaps than this. It introduced young people to stage productions.

I first saw this when I was in the 5th grade. Years later I recorded it off the TV onto a video tape. I lost that and didn’t give it another thought. I found it again in a used bookstore that also sold movies. To make a long story short, I now have it on DVD. Still one of my favorites.

As a child, I would watch Cinderella, once a year. Loved it then, and love it now!!! I’m 60 years old now.

That prince’s first song fits me perfectly. Unlike him, I don’t think I will find the one that will love me. Unlike him, I can’t make a royal ball. I am not prince to have that power or popularity. 🤣🤣🤣🤣😭

In about 2010, almost 50 years after Cinderella premiered on TV in 1965, I met Leslie Ann Warren. In a moment of total recall, I asked her "are you the sweet invention of a lover’s dream?" She thought for a moment, and it was like she woke up. She then answered resoundingly, "YES, I AM!" It was a full circle moment in my life.
HERE’S THE STORY… I was 12 years old, growing up in the south when this began being aired on television and I was transfixed. I never missed it. Newly 50 years later, I was working at a New York theater lobby concession and Leslie Ann Warren came to the counter. I thought it was her. She really hadn’t changed that much. After serving her bottled water I remembered a line from my favorite childhood TV special and I said, "may I ask you a question?" Leslie Ann Warren replied, "of course." (maybe thinking I’d ask, are you Leslie Ann Warren). I asked, "are you the sweet invention of a lover’s dream?" She thought for a moment, and then answered, "YES, I AM!" We had a brief but memorable conversation about how Cinderella launched her career at 18 and where I could see it again (it was before youtube and she suggested the Radio&TV Museum in New York. Fast forward another 10 years, and I’ve found it again. It all seems like 10 minutes ago!

I remember this vividly from my childhood. This Tv production was a big deal like the big movie releases of today. My mom died in 1958 and her children were living a real life Cinderella story back then.

I absolutely think for next year NBC should do Cinderella Live! with Kristen Bell as Fairy godmother, Meg Donnelly as Cinderella, Lucy Lawless as Stepmother, & Booboo Stewart as Prince Christopher. But let’s wait & see what NBC has install for us next year OK because I really think they should defiantly do this! Thank you!!
