Service Dog Public Access Test
Service Dog Public Access Test
This video shows an example of the Public Access Test. All service animals should be held to a very high standard when working out in public.

Top Dog Professional Training was founded in 2005 by Adam Gibson. Since then we’ve trained over 3000 dogs including Police K9’s, Service Dogs (Diabetic Alert Dogs, Mobility Assistance Dogs, Autism Assistance Dogs), and every breed from poodle puppies to pit bulls.
Our facility is located just outside of Fort Worth, Texas in the small town of Joshua (sandwiched between Burleson and Cleburne). We serve the entire DFW metroplex, and even have clients come in from surrounding states. We no longer train police K9’s but still specialize in service dogs for those with medical needs.
The training we offer is designed to help you have the relationship you’ve dreamed about with your dog. Our straightforward and easy to understand methods can assist with problem behaviors such as aggression, fear, over excitement, jumping, licking, biting, chewing, etc. and of course we also offer obedience training to teach your dog to do exactly what you say, when you say it.
Our programs are available through group classes, private one on one training, day training, and board and train. We also offer a balanced and structured doggy daycare at our facility to provide a safe outlet for your dog to exercise and socialize.
If you have any other questions or just want some more information please visit our website. http://topdogtexas.com/
I cant wait to get my SD, applying to a nearby program tomorrow!
I want a PSD so bad…
St. Charles shopping mall?
It seems that quite a bit physical manipulation and leash tension was used to control the dog. Is using treats durning a test allowed?
That test is fine and dandy for most people using a dog for mental conditions but for people using them for physical needs such as mobility assist cannot have a dog doing that much sitting automatically and we do not teach them to sit because we need them to not be sitting all the time as it affects our balance and how the dog works with us. I am a certified PAT evaluator and service dog trainer and wanted to clarify this.
I want my Yorkie to be with me at all times
She calms my anxiety
What a good dog! So calm and well-behaved!
My service dog is a Pomeranian, she will pass all the test except the kids coming near her, when she was 3 years old a little boy around 4 years thought it was funny to come running at her and kicked her in the ribs and fractured 2 of her ribs, since that day she wants nothing to do with kids, she would see them and keep calm unless they start running or come very near, we haven’t been able to make her like kids again!
Well my old lady definetly passed this test with flying colors😂 only thing she can’t due not because she can’t but simply because it’s not possible for her is loading in and out of the car without help as I have a large vehicle and she is a very small dog. I do have her trained alternately for seating she knows to go to the passenger side until I give her the command to come and sit on my lap for driving which she lays down beautifully. My mom was the one who taught her this before I could drive but I taught her the passenger seat command amoung a bunch of new ones 😄 14 years old and I’m still doing light training with her. I’ve had a few accidents where I didn’t realize how close to the passenger door she was when I was getting her out and she’s rolled out the door literally but was in her vest so she was fine just startled. This an error on my end not hers so I was more aware of this in the future and do a slower open to let her know the door is opening and move away from the door since she likes to make sure I’m ok and will look out the window but they are tinted so I can’t see in very well 😖
My SD started lying down when we stop. He used to sit. He is really weird.
One of the most amazing things I’ve done is train my own dog. She wasn’t quite perfect, but she still passed the test first time. Feel free to ask questions, if I know the answer I’ll tell you.
This is soooo helpful
Why am I watching this????
Good baby I was asked do i want one i think im ready to try
Are you kidding me? Let the dog out of the car off leash with no harness on?! Put the harness on outside of the car? That is absolutely absurd
This video is misleading. The law does not require certification- in fact, it states plainly certification is not required. Therefore, a public access test is not required. However, for those of us who have self-trained our dogs, this video gives us a level of training we should strive to attain if possible.
The last 2 days I’ve been running into fake service dogs yesterday a fake service dog went to bit my working service dog and today there was two fake dogs in pram one dog kept barking at mine and the owner fretten to bash me
Hi is this a cockapoo
No did not enjoy it at all! So cruel with the food! Wth even the handler would eat anything in their way but the dog should suffer! The dog being amazing has nothing to do with you really or the handler its just the dog being amazing! But not letting it taste food or giving it water when waiting in a restaurant is cruel!
I’ve been working with our new standard poodle (13 weeks old) with intention to train him as a diabetic service dog for hubby. Trying to afford a fully trained dog is out of the question! Thank you for providing what is looked for.
Extremely usefull.
*when the service dog can resist the food temptation.*
me: how do you do that-
This looks like ghr Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga, NY.
Thank you so much!
I have to teach my dog this… he’s 6 months so hes still learning lol sd in training
Theres always a swisher packet on the ground somewhere in america
Now since u said it’s ok for a person to pet ur dog and what if he does snap and bites that’s person u will be liable I always tell people no u can’t pet my service dog he’s on duty and he does bite sometimes so I don’t have to worry bout him biting anybody bc he is my protector also
This is what I need. To train my dog to be a service dog.
Once you see a true service dog at work (a wonderful thing to see) spotting a fake is easy as pie.
I know I should not distract service dogs so I only take a quick and secret peek from behind. They are adorable and smart.
I need help with this i try to walk with my dog i really your advice
I have covid and will need service dog upon release. In hospital for about a month . need so much help from medical to mobility, but no-one seems to have answers. I am so scared not being able function at home. Where can I find help?
My rescue would be great until it came to being pet and leash free walking. I’m so proud of his progress!
He was an out of control nutjob when I got him.
My current service dog is getting ready to retire but unfortunately I don’t think rescue will be happy doing service dog work even if he does get to the point he COULD do it so I’ll just have to become a hermit for a bit if I dont have one ready by my SDs retirement.
This is virtually identical to the test for the AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (Urban CGC or simply CGCU).
To all the ppl wanting registration. Please prove your kids are yours everywhere you go. Would help with kidnappings. How about us having to prove citizenship everywhere we go
You should make a video of people with fake service dogs which seems to be very popular.
I want this dog.
good stuff thanks for the video
This dog is so smart!
How do you train for theses public situations if you can’t go in until you pass the test?
Nice video 😍
My dog would ace this test on all but two very important points. He doesn’t want dogs anywhere near him and wants to get as close to people as possible. It’s a shame as he naturally does the tasks I need for anxiety and I would benefit massively
My service dog is a bit older because I have been recently diagnosed with extremely bad scocial enxiety and hes almost got the alert fully down but he still need to know how to not get distracted by food
How much does a diabetic alret dog cost ?
Why is it such a big issue for my dog to be petted if she’s doing her job correctly and it doesn’t interfere with her task?
Actually during the part where he said “service dogs should never be off leash” that isn’t actually correct. Service dogs legally don’t have to where a leash if it interrupts one of the service dog tasks.
Is it right to do the test with a tool like the leash or a promp collar when you are asking the dog to do a command? I ask because in almost every time the dogs sits the handler is pulling the leash, I can’t tell if the dog is using a promp collar or not, and I’m not against using this tool to train or correct a dog, but in real life escenario we should test the obiedence of the dog without this pressure. Because the only thing I have seen in this video is a dog that knows how to behave in public with the promp collar, not real obidience or actually a real service for a disable person.
Sorry if I sound a lil bit rude, is a good dog, but I can’t see "The Service" and if you have to use a promp collar the whole time and have to pick the leash 3 seconds after you drop it, then the test should be harder for the handler.
Excellent Job with all the commands, and behaviors….I was highly impressed!!!
Can you use treats in this test or is it sans treat?
Just got my dog as I didn’t have enough money to professionally train I decided to train him for me by myself so thank you. He’s really goood but he definitely has a-lot to go. I am really going to need him. My mom will be kicking me out once he’s able to be in public areas lol.
