I had no idea they were dangerous. Pets at Home said they were good for exercising. I’m so glad I watched this.

  2. Amy on August 7, 2020 at 9:31 pm

This video confused me. I mean… I get the point and if I watch it I feel like I should not put my dwarfhamster in a ball. But he always gets excited when I show him the ball! When he sees it he comes running towards it. When I open it he goes in in a second. He is already trying to run in it when I am still closing the ball. So.. he really DOES seem to like it. I mean.. if they don’t like it altho it seems so.. then why would he run in it himself when he is safe in his cage? He has an extremely big self-build cage. So its not like he just wants to get out of the cage. He is actually a little scared when he needs to get out of it, except when I show him the ball. So why is that?

  3. mistkitty88 on August 7, 2020 at 9:32 pm

I had bought a large ball for my rats when I first became a rat owner. Even with all the research I had done, I didn’t know the balls were bad for them, as some people said they were fine while others disagreed. Turned out, my heart rat at the time loved the ball so much, that he would go up to it during free time, flip it over, jump inside, and roll his way to my door knowing the ball meant more places to explore. He was quite clever. He is the only rat to show interest in the ball, mostly because I decided against introducing it to any others. I think I’ll take your advice and hang it in the cage. 🙂

I feel really bad now…I used to put my rats in a large rat ball but I’m glad I only did it like once a week or less. I’m gonna make them a ball hammock with it instead now!😊

  7. Aspen Duncombe on August 7, 2020 at 9:36 pm

I bought them a ball one time they just used it as a hide away in there cage

  8. Golden Gray on August 7, 2020 at 9:36 pm

Agreed! The balls are also terrible for hedgehogs as well!

  9. B-Rit on August 7, 2020 at 9:38 pm

it’s kinda funny because I have to rats and I put them in a ball ones and my boy was to fat and couldn’t even get the thing to move😂 and my girl was so small and light that she could get it to move to😂😂 to funny.

  13. Sassy Susie on August 7, 2020 at 9:42 pm

Your kidding me right? You have no common sense whatsoever. After hearing this I will continue putting my pet in a ball. You just said they are trapped in a contraption…what do you think their cages are?? You make absolutely no sense. And if you leave your pet unattended to long…if course they may get a foot caught and it get swollen! You are are trying to deture many other educated people from something that can exercise their pet. Sham in you!

  14. Cara Jackson on August 7, 2020 at 9:42 pm

  21. Grace Gray on August 7, 2020 at 9:55 pm

I used s ball for my mouse daily but I didn’t realise how much damage it could do so I’ve stopped now and my rats just sit in it so can I still use it for my rats even though they just sit down or should I just make a play pen

  22. Austin Creates on August 7, 2020 at 9:55 pm

Damn I’m glad that I dont use that thing anymore. I did buy it and Dazai my sweet boy has been in it once, I saw how afraid he was when I closed it, so after that i let him out and never used it again for that purpose. I’m glad I didnt. thank you for the video :O

  23. Josiah Miller on August 7, 2020 at 9:58 pm

just saying don’t mean to be this person but I’ve had my hamster for 1 year and she always runs up to the glass when she sees me, jumps onto my hand, and runs really quickly into the ball if I hold it near her and waits for me to shut it, sometimes not wanting to leave after 30 mins. sure seems like she wants to run around. I take. her out every day btw.

  24. Nathalie Grieves on August 7, 2020 at 9:59 pm

Best thing 2 exercise your small pet out side of the cage is a play pen

  25. Rowan on August 7, 2020 at 10:00 pm

I though it would keep them safe around the house and keep them from eating random things. The play pen idea sounds really go though!

A loooong time ago when i had gerbils and was very young we had an exercise ball for them.. One enjoyed running around other sat silently and we put her back in the cage.. Never forcing her. Weird thing is.. Other one.. she went in the ball herself.. Maybe she was an exception?? I never forced my animals into the ball ever… I just put the ball in the cage and see if they want to go in and enjoy it. If they didnt then i didnt put them in. But well that was only with my gerbils, with rats I never did.
Tho i do feel a bit bad now maybe my gerbil didnt actually like it but she didnt have pain or problems…

  28. Abdelrahman Sahmoud on August 7, 2020 at 10:02 pm

  30. BUGOETKI on August 7, 2020 at 10:04 pm

I have one that came with a stand and has one side open. Is it ok to use as a wheel inside the cage for my mice if they can get in and out on their own? My wheel broke and Im trying to find a solution until I can get another one

Thanks I would’ve never know not to do that with my pets

  37. Heather H on August 7, 2020 at 10:16 pm

I’m lucky. I have three cats. One is scared of rats and just keeps his distance and one likes to groom and play with rats. My roommate’s cat is the only one I can’t trust around rats, because he’s not gentle. Even if he were to just want to play with them, he could seriously injure them on accident. I just supervise whenever he’s around to make sure he doesn’t get too close or too rambunctious.

  38. Rowan Chow on August 7, 2020 at 10:19 pm

If I had a pet cat would the smell of the cat make a rat scared?

  39. Lindsay Larocque on August 7, 2020 at 10:20 pm

  42. Morgan Hartman on August 7, 2020 at 10:22 pm

My cousin who owns rats told me its great for rats so this morning i got two for my girls. When I got home I put them both in a ball and they were both so scared and stressed they wouldn’t even move. So I took them out and looked it up on youtube and this video came up, thank you so much for the help hopefully I can return the balls

  43. einstein on August 7, 2020 at 10:24 pm

    help? ❤
luckily i watched this before placing my rats in theirs!
thank you for the video. unfortunately, though, i lost my petco receipt and cannot return the ball! i spent around $18 dollars on mine, and i’m very upset. i’m thinking about making a hut/extra igloo out of it because my girls love cozy hiding places! is this a good idea? i’d hate my 18 dollars to go to waste, but, i"m not sure my ratties would enjoy this.
has anybody on here made any diys/igloos out of their exercise balls – and can you tell me if they’re comfortable?
thanks again for the video! you might have saved my girls ;’) ❤

  46. Lex Equestrian on August 7, 2020 at 10:24 pm

I feel so bad now, I’ve been putting my hamsters in their balls 30mins, 3 days a week for a year 😔

  47. Yankee redneck on August 7, 2020 at 10:25 pm

I was going to make a wheel like with plexiglass sides with a bunch of holes big enough for my African soft fur would be able to go in and out but take the wheel off the hinge so they can go in and out of it but they can use it to roll around with on the ground you think that would be safe

  48. Melvin Jansson on August 7, 2020 at 10:26 pm

Now i feel bad after putting My hamster in a ball. Good that you made this video so no one make the same mistake.

  49. Dylan Morton Jackson on August 7, 2020 at 10:27 pm

i trust my cat with my mice and rats more than my dog. mostly because he was bred to keep rats and mice out of barns by shaking the shit out of them and killing them.

  50. Wolfie Woman on August 7, 2020 at 10:28 pm

My last rat would play with both my dog and cat. Of course I safely introduced her to them. During play time if my cat was on the bed my rat would play with her. I taught my cat (who was 3) to be careful while playing with her ratty sister by tapping her firmly but gently on the bridge of her nose whenever her ratty sister squeaked. They got so comfortable my rat and cat actually took a nap together. My dog was super funny, they would play tag lol. She would chase him and when she got his paw she would run away and he’d chase her, once he nudged her with his nose he would run off and the game would continue.
