Can you make a video on how to train and bond with a fearful green cheek conure please. I have gotten him so far he lets me touch him but he is still very fearful.

  3. Vic Taylor on August 31, 2021 at 4:20 am

I’m really struggling with my budgie… he’s scared/frightened me but especially of my hands. I can’t do anything with him as he flies off high if I come anywhere near!
Ive had him from 8 weeks old and he’s about 6 months old now. He was doing really well stepping up etc. Quite shy and timid but doing so well.
About a month ago he had a bad fall off his play stand following a particularly energetic play session. He fell down and landed awkwardly bending 2 feathers right back on the edge of his wing and cut himself a little. As he was bleeding I had to pick him up and stretch out his wing to assess/treat the bleeding. my breeder said to dust a little corn flour (corn starch in US I think) to stop the bleeding. It worked and I released him.
Anyway. The fall and me grabbing him and handling him freaked him out so so much 🥺.
Like I said, it’s over a month later he still scared. He won’t step up or be anywhere near my hands mainly. If I catch him in a good mood he will step onto my shoulder if he can’t see my hands but flies off straight away if my hands come out of my pockets. 😕 He will only let me about 2-3 feet away from him. Any closer he will fly to the other side of the room. I don’t want to chase him backwards and forwards as this will scare him. He will step up on my finger begrudgingly in his cage but this is because he knows he’s coming out of the cage but he flies off as soon as my hand exits the cage.
I’ve done hours and hours … and more hours with him… trying to get closer slowly. I think I’m getting somewhere one day But the day after I’m back to square one again 😢.
He likes millet but not enough to over come his fear of hands. Likes lettuce but same.
I’m out of ideas! He was getting such a friendly little thing before his accident. He wants nothing to do with me whatsoever now. But the main thing is that he doesn’t seem as happy either. 😢
I suppose I just need to keep trying in Hope one day he will trust me enough to build a bond again. Any help & advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’m a 33 year old male and you’ve inspired me to go get two little parakeets. One question I have is I have a screened in porch patio could I leave them there or is it better to have them in the house? I live in Florida and it’s a shaded covered closed in 8×8 area

  8. Danielle on August 31, 2021 at 4:26 am

Hi!! I have two sweet parakeets that I would love to finger train, but they are not often interested in millet (over the years I have had other budgies as well and they have always loved it so I don’t know why!). Are there any other treats you might suggest for this purpose?

  9. Girl In A SmartCar on August 31, 2021 at 4:28 am

Hi JamieLeigh! Big fan of your channel. I have a question: what do You and Dave recommend to human parents of blind budgies? My sweet budgie Azul is now blind (he was a rescue), from, most likely, a slow growing brain tumor (I took him in for a checkup a few weeks ago and his Avian vet gave me the bad news). What are some recommendations? Have you ever helped someone with a blind budgie? He’s too scared to fly and to come out of his aviary now 🙁 He is very attuned to my voice, and is happy when I’m around, but he’s so scared, my poor sweet Azuly *heart breaking emoji*

  15. Paz Arbeláez Patiño on August 31, 2021 at 4:33 am

Hello! i have two budgies, and the male is comfortable enough to get in my hand when i put inside the cage, even when theres no food. We’ve been trying recently to get them out of the cage and we simply go to a smaller room close windows and doors and leve the cage open so they can come out if they want to, it has worked two times, (we’ve tried 4 times) but they are really reluctant and sometimes they just dont want to go out and i relly want them to hly so they can excersice a littlee. Also, the first two times they got really really nervous, am i doing something wrong or what can i do?

  16. Alicia Dagry on August 31, 2021 at 4:36 am

I got a yellow bird, sunny and a blue one, blue.. I had sunny the longest but blue was such a precious bird. He was so easy to tame and was so friendly, always curious and happy, and he kissed me on the cheek and always flew on my shoulder from his cage everytime I opened the cage. Well, I got a call while I was at work and my boyfriend was crying saying he went to change water and blue escaped and hit the ceiling fan while it was ON😭😭😭 He passed away and I am so heartbroken. I told him to never use that ceiling fan ever. I even had purchased enough fans to use on the floor vs the ceiling and always left it off. I am so heartbroken. He was such a good bird and he brought me joy every day.. now I have my little sunny but she is still young and so hard to tame, I am also concerned from the trauma she may have endured from losing her friend. I feel so sad that I want to give her to a pet store and not have birds for a while. I am so heartbroken because we had such a great bond compared to my other bird who hates people🥺😭 my little bluesy woozy was such a great bird and I really wish I can bring him back. Crazy how much love you can have towards them and them towards you.💔

  17. peter stößel on August 31, 2021 at 4:36 am

i have five of them. They´re stepping up when they want or wanna hang out with or on me. there should at least two budgies. Two males are easier to tame. But even in a flock most of them get comfortable with humans. in this vid her beak looks quite long and if it´s still the case she should see a vet and get checked for liver malfunctions.

Can someone give me advice? So I’ve had my budgie over a year and it was great we were having fun until my other budgie died unexpectedly. For the last year he didn’t let me do anything. Feed him , touch him ,put me hand in to change his food without getting bitten and having my finger messed up. Can someone give me advice on how to bond with him?

I have one budgie and 2 finches, I kind of messed up for the first couple of days I had them (finches), so they’re a bit weary around me. The braver one whose a Zebra Finch definitely doesn’t like me lol but there is one that I handled early when I got them, he’s still nervous but he’s a lot more chill. The budgie I have is very young and she barely moves around the cage, luckily I did interact with her when we first got her. I’m only 12 so I didn’t research the finches well when I got them, but I’ll try to have more patience with the budgie. Also I live in a small apartment with 6 people so I can’t really have my budgie everywhere but hopefully one day.

  35. Paul Macias on August 31, 2021 at 4:59 am

My wife adopted a budgie a few weeks ago, and it never ever wanted to leave its cage. My wife felt it acceptable to grab it against its will, and my youngest kid loved to torment him. I tried my hardest to bond with him, but while I was able to get him to eat from my hand, it never really got beyond that. Eventually, my youngest let him out of the cage, and he flew outside. I nearly was able to get him back, but then he flew off even further, and I’m assuming he’s probably suffered a terrible fate. I feel miserable when I think about it, and I really do love birds. When I get another one, I will probably keep it in a separate room at first, but even after watching this video, I still am not sure what I’m supposed to be doing. Like, if it never leaves the cage, what do I do to get him comfortable to come out?

  36. Cataya Crawford on August 31, 2021 at 4:59 am

Due to health reasons I am not able to be with my two buddies for the second half of the day and they are on a seed diet and are stubborn and won’t take pellets very easily. I’ve had them for two weeks and have made little progress with them. any advice?

  37. Z French on August 31, 2021 at 5:02 am

So, I watched this while driving, and long story short, I misheard what you said at the beginning and tried flooding my budgie.. and let’s just say I’m back to square one

What should I use as a "treat" for my Galah? she’s not interested in being any where NEAR a food bowl if I’m holding it… I think she’d rather starve! she climbs the cage and moves away from me.

I’ve been watching your videos for about 2 years and I’m just so grateful for this amazing resource! My wife raised conures and cockatiels and though I never met those birds the stories had me so in love and interested.
I was delighted to find such a comprehensive archive of information on your channel.

We are bringing a bonded pair of two budgies home tonight and I’m nesting like crazy.

    You’re the best! Thank you!!
