Two Days in the Life of a Fourth Year Med Student – 48 hours on call Ob/Gyn rotation

Come join me on my 48 hour call shift on my OB/Gyn rotation!! I am a fourth year medical student near the end of my medical school education – only 6 weeks to go! I am going into full-spectrum Family Medicine with OB and I wanted more time doing OB and delivering babies prior to the start of residency.

  1. Elle Mitchell on June 25, 2022 at 5:36 pm

Delivering babies sound so terrifying to me! Even being a surgeon sounds nicer as you can take a while to do a surgery but with labour you have to do it and not stop or take a break in the middle of labour.

  2. Reese on June 25, 2022 at 5:36 pm

intresting fact about OB/GYN: they don’t treat men for some reason. Based on personenel experience. :c

  3. oyinkan on June 25, 2022 at 5:37 pm

  12. Jonathan Lai on June 25, 2022 at 5:50 pm

odd enough, this vid kind of affirmed my envy to become a doctor one day. Sure 48-hour shifts are ridiculous, but just that feeling of responsibility is just so exhilarating.

  13. Brian Varughese on June 25, 2022 at 5:51 pm

Im a second year med student and watching this just got me more excited for my rotations.

  14. bob vance on June 25, 2022 at 5:52 pm

if you look at the video from the start to finish it seem like its a before and after picture of a person on crack or meth.
a little bit not alot though

  15. Emily 1995 on June 25, 2022 at 5:54 pm

You’re living my dream right now! I want more than anything to deliver babies. Right now im an RPN hoping to upgrade and specialize.

In India we start the shift at 4am,don’t have time to scratch our arse,so definitely no time to vlog it

  22. Eric Taylor on June 25, 2022 at 6:01 pm

2:43 "The other patient, he let me do the exam." My god, why are you doing a speculum exam on a guy. Was he okay? Did anyone stop you before you did too much damage? Are they going to let you continue your education?
This seems like a rather grievous mistake.
I really really hope this was an error in langue and not an error in gender identification.
I did have a doctor ask if I was pregnant once, but seeing the look on my face, she explained they had to ask everyone when they had a pregnant transgender person come through.

    how old is she?

  24. ArtemisDD on June 25, 2022 at 6:06 pm

This is such an American thing. Why would you have one person being there for 48 hours? It’s still a student! Why not have more doctors share those shifts and have a student come along? We’ve got a way better health system here in The Netherlands. I’m so glad I’ll become a doctor in this country hahaha

  31. Todd Lavigne on June 25, 2022 at 6:11 pm

  34. Jason Wang on June 25, 2022 at 6:14 pm

I’m a pharmacy student on rotations and just simply by observing medical students/residents/doctors, I have so much respect for them and all the work/hours they put in.

  35. Gabrielle Luhowy on June 25, 2022 at 6:15 pm

What med school did you go to?

  36. Liuhuayue on June 25, 2022 at 6:17 pm

It scares me that you said it wasn’t too bad at the end, yet you were suffering from a headache and seemed groggy with exhaustion.

my dream is to be an ob/gyn but it’s too late now 🙁

  38. The Natural Nurse on June 25, 2022 at 6:20 pm

I want to do this career but I’m terrified of having to do an c- section! I wanted to go for midwifery so that way I can be on call and deliver but I don’t have to do any major surgeries.

  39. the.mighty.kyuss on June 25, 2022 at 6:20 pm

med student on call lol…more like the resident is on call and you’re lucky to be invited

  40. Impedancenetwork on June 25, 2022 at 6:22 pm

Are they paying you during this? If you are still considered "in school" then I guess this is just part of your classes, which means they aren’t paying you. They don’t pay me to take vector analysis so I guess I can understand why you wouldn’t get paid.

Grey’s Anatomy is definitely making me want to be a doctor! Although, I expected everything to be like Greys Anatomy.

Starting med school in July. People saying they know what they wanna be will probably change their minds several times a week for 3 years. lol

  45. Emma Nelson on June 25, 2022 at 6:25 pm

That’s not right. You can’t function mentally after so little sleep. I wouldn’t want you as my doctor after the first 18 or so hours.

  46. Adi Yogi on June 25, 2022 at 6:27 pm

Oh American doctors are the worst doctors in the world. They have no human touch, most are like robots who go by historical knowledge more than current diagnosis. They rely heavily on NSAIDs to treat problems that they cant treat. Its better to go with Ayurvedic or Homeopathic treatments which are time tested and have no side effects but most Americans are programmed to not try alternate therapies. I try to stay away from American doctors where I live.

  47. Jay on June 25, 2022 at 6:27 pm

this is awesome! I’m so excited for med school! Thank you for sharing !
