Born and raised in West Virginia, and I still have never seen a "pepperoni roll."

I’m a 70 year old native Mountaineer. Our mountains are pronounced Appa-lay- chins…unless you’re a politically correct liberal. Just FYI.

    Something I see very often:
DON’T come to West Virginia (or the Appalachians) on a visit- then talk friendly with the people and enjoy our culture, then go on social media making fun of us and our culture.

We are very welcoming people, and when we see that stuff online it makes us (well, me and quite a few others I know) not so likely to be welcoming. We were raised to treat others how we want to be treated.

Also, don’t come here on a visit and talk down to us as if we aren’t intelligent. This happens often where I’m at. Yes, we understand what you said, and no I’m not changing the way I talk because you don’t like our “hick” accents.
I have a bunch of friends that I hold dear to me out of state, and I’ll welcome anyone willing to come in and have a great time.

Slow down and enjoy WV, you won’t regret it.

    Pocahontas county here

Why is WV such a poor state? People generally like to live in beautiful places, and WV looks gorgeous. And people with money build beautiful homes in beautiful places. So how is it WV remains so underrated and poor?

It’s also worth noting that many parts of the eastern portion of West Virginia is in the National Radio Quiet Zone, which doesn’t have much cell reception. They prohibit a lot of higher-power radio waves (such as cell phones) because of a radio telescope in the area (also some NSA stuff).

  11. Kuya_Mike on October 27, 2021 at 6:01 am

funny cuz western states definitely have more mountain ranges

  12. Wade Wilson on October 27, 2021 at 6:01 am

I live right in the middle of west Virginia and I can think of a whole different list of DON’Ts
    Don’t trust pass
    Don’t talk shit
Don’t undermine or make fun of anyone
Don’t go up any roads you have no business going up
Don’t go in any small town bars
    Don’t get off the interstate
And 1 last thing – WE ARE HILL BILLY’S

  13. Noreply on October 27, 2021 at 6:02 am

    John Denver!

As a native West Virginian born and raised in the northern panhandle, don’t forget that part of West Virginia is right next to Pittsburgh.

  15. FACTS DC on October 27, 2021 at 6:07 am

    I love WV.

  16. Kelli Smith on October 27, 2021 at 6:08 am

Those are not the original pepperoni rolls. The original is more like a regular roll with pepperoni baked into it. Also look for the covered bridges in the small towns.

  17. T Jones on October 27, 2021 at 6:09 am

I’ve been thinking about moving to WV but I’m a scaredy-cat homebody. I wouldn’t be able to live by myself surrounded by a forest. Plus people say there’s nothing there tho I think that’s an exaggeration.

    Love my state. ❤❤

    DONT GO!!! the end…

  23. Janet Stonerook on October 27, 2021 at 6:14 am

Don’t assume West Virginians are uneducated and poor just because we have an accent and may dress modestly. We don’t brag about such things when you first meet us. It’s considered rude to put on airs!

  24. JHaz on October 27, 2021 at 6:15 am

Don’t roam the woods alone in west Virginia or you’ll get abducted by some hillbillies

  25. SMSRunner1 on October 27, 2021 at 6:15 am

As a West Virginian, I think with the coal industry the more correct thing to say is don’t disrespect coal. Like, plenty of us don’t like it, but we have respect for the miners and laborers. So be respectful, but you can definitely talk about the negatives of coal in the right context.

  26. Robert Russell on October 27, 2021 at 6:15 am

Yeah we’re not a liberal state where a republican state 110% we believe in the Second Amendment women believe in every amendment of the Constitution I don’t like Virginia which doesn’t believe in anything they are pieces of crap is the problem the difference in West Virginia and then as we have beautiful scenery and greet people and we love the people don’t wanna come here

  27. Melanie McIntosh on October 27, 2021 at 6:17 am

WV is amazing and you could not ask for nicer people and that is one of the many reasons that I plan on moving there in the spring. Any and all advice would be welcomed

  28. Barry Wainwright on October 27, 2021 at 6:18 am

This guy is a great talker he does not even say ahh or umm. Why can’t we have someone like this for a president that has some intelligence? Anyway a great video on an amazing state. I’ve been to West Virginia many times and I love it there. I have been on the top of Spruce Knob five times.

  29. Ethan Ruckman on October 27, 2021 at 6:18 am

I can show you the coolest spots only locals know of and out of staters cant get to.

My father in law lives in Doddridge County WV I can ride you around for 2+ hours up there and you will never have cell signal at all

  33. wardboy814 on October 27, 2021 at 6:22 am

Thats awsome. My grandad was from shinnston wv. Had three brothers. All served in ww2 in different branches. I believe his father was a Blackfoot Indian brought to wv in late 1800s. Alot of history down there. Moved to meadville pa area before ww2 and we been here since. Still have family thats like 93 years old down in Fairmont wv. Wv is a nice place to live or visit!

  34. Matthew Rider on October 27, 2021 at 6:23 am

We don’t have the Appalachian Mountains in Missouri, but SW MO has a part of the beautiful Ozark Mountains, w/lots of good fishing, to boot!

  35. M on October 27, 2021 at 6:24 am

  36. Lisa Koerner Perry on October 27, 2021 at 6:24 am

I was raised in WV and I think you did a great job with this video!

  37. George Rivers on October 27, 2021 at 6:27 am

You actually said Appalachian wrong lol.

  38. VADOC02 on October 27, 2021 at 6:27 am

Impressed you showed the 12 mile road train tressle at mile marker 5 on I77.
I live in southern west virgina but work in virginia and travel this portion of I 77 daily, I would advise any vistors from east river mountain tunnel to Princeton to please be very cautious. A trickey bit of highway.
West Virginia is very multidimensional, wheeling is much different than berkey springs, than white sulfur springs than parkersburg.
And, the third Saturday in October is Bridge day!!!

  39. toolboy1212p on October 27, 2021 at 6:27 am

West Virginia may be a beautiful place to visitors but it ranks almost if not dead last in many categories pertaining to life expectancy mortality rate, obesity ,drug use, etc and if your here long enough you will see it. Other West Virginian’s may deny these claims (maybe you live in motown/Morgantown or another small city? so you don’t see it as much?) that are indeed factual. Get off the interstate at least 15-20 miles and you will see the real WV. Can’t be ranked most miserable state 9-10 years now? For nothing.

  40. Roy Manning on October 27, 2021 at 6:27 am

My family came to Ohio from WVa when I was a year old .People here in Ohio assumed we were stupid because we were friendly . My relation in WVa grew up very intelligent. Yes people take freindlness for being stupid.

We visited Morgantown WV and the people were sooo friendly. I would be very interested to buy a 🏠 there!!
